STEPHENSON COUNTY (WIFR) -- A former Stephenson County Board member will avoid prison after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor.
According to the Stephenson County State's Attorney, 22-year-old Ashley DeMeester pled guilty to disregard of the election code. She will pay a $500 fine and 40 hours of community service. In addition,
DeMeester must pay back approximately $1,000 to Stephenson County for the money she received as a board member when she did not live in the county board district. She will also be under court supervision for two years.
DeMeester was first investigated back in April after resigning from the Stephenson County Board. According to the district's attorney, she was elected to district G without living there and lied about her address on various government documents.
