STEPHENSON COUNTY (WIFR) --Criminal charges are filed against a former Stephenson County board member accused of lying about where she lived to get elected.
22-year-old Ashley DeMeester is being interviewed by detectives in Green County, Wisconsin right now where she was arrested before heading to work earlier this evening. DeMeester is charged with theft by deception, election code perjury, and disregard of the election code.
The investigation was first brought up in April after her resignation from the Stephenson County board. The state's attorney says she was elected to district G without living there and lied about her address on various government documents. She also was paid to be on the county board a position meant to help families in her district
DeMeester is in jail on 50-thousand dollars bond.
