ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- He would have turned 18 this month and graduated from high school, but he lost his life unexpectedly.
Lincoln Middle School held a ceremony on Friday to remember Austin Rux and to present his family with the Capstone Award. Austin passed away in 2011 after his freshman year at East High School. The former football player and wrestler was also inducted into Lincoln's Hall of Fame today. On the award it says he'll be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of the Dallas Cowboys. Rux's mom Roberta Korntved says today ceremony was amazing.
"So to have him receive this award is a real honor for our family to have him recognize and remember in this way."
East High School also established a Sportsmanship Award in Rux's name.
