TOWN OF BELOIT (WIFR) -- At 3:12 PM the Town of Beloit Fire Department was dispatched to 2435 Jackson St. for a residential fire.

City of Beloit was dispatched for mutual aid and arrived on scene first and reported flames showing. Once fire crews made entry they discovered a kitchen fire and they were able to extinguish the flames very quickly.

No one was at home at the time of the fire.

Investigators found the cause to be food left cooking on the stove.
No injuries were reported and there were smoke detectors in the home but were not operating when firefighters arrived on scene. We would like to advise the public to not take their smoke detectors for granted and make sure they are tested monthly.

The house is owned by Heather Slawson and is not insured.
The dollar loss is estimated at $35,000.

Fire Departments from the City of Beloit, Town of Turtle, Orfordville, Clinton, Harlem Roscoe, Edgerton, and Juda assisted with operations.
