LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Food banks rely heavily on volunteers and financial donations to keep afloat. One of those local non profits received some major help from one of the biggest store chains in the world.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank got a $150,000 grant from the WalMart Foundation to purchase a new truck and pallet jacks.
The food bank says the new truck is a must because that's the way they get the food donations from donors and out to other pantries in the area.
More than half a million people are at risk of hunger in its 13 county service area.
On Thursday WalMart employees also volunteered their time to help the food bank with its meal in a bag program which provides a few items and a recipe.
