WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Since school is back in session, doctors say the already intense flu season could get worse. Hundreds of flu cases have been reported in Winnebago County, much earlier than last year.
523 cases were reported in the last week of December alone. That's four times as many as when cases typically spike in March. So far, there have been more than 1,000 flu cases in Winnebago County this season.
We are told there's been at least 3 deaths, related to the flu. Health providers say it's not too late to get a flu shot, which is at least 60% effective.
