ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's southwest side may look entirely different in the next two decades thanks to a new plan to improve the South Main corridor.

First the Morgan Street Bridge explosion; now plans for a business boom on the city's south west side.

Rockford’s South Main Street will have a whole new look in the next 20 years and tonight aldermen and community members had a chance to speak up about the future project. Right now the city plans to improve the area by adding a new Amtrak station near Kent Street, a new Morgan Street Bridge--which we recently saw explode to make room for a new structure--and town homes with plenty of parking space.

Boves Brothers owner Joe Bove has worked in the area for nearly 60 years so he's seen a lot of ups and downs. He says he's looking forward to the improvements.

He said, "I think it's important the whole city picks up. Its not fair to have everything on the east side, these people have to go to the grocery store on the east side and we want to get some of that retail business down here"

The council is expected to vote on the proposal sometime this month. Also tonight, aldermen will discuss a new redistricting plan for the city.

@ Mr.stone - This is the response I received in regard to why my comments were not posted. - This was an overall criticism of the poor, Section 8 housing, welfare, renters …the system. There is Section 8 housing in every part of Rockford and all area of the region. - That reasoning is BS and comes from a specific persons point of view. As I told him. Your comments board has criticism made of everyone in this city. The poor, section 8 and welfare recipients are fair game for critisism just like anyone else.

WIFR refuses to post my comment saying the use of the term "those people" has a racial overtone. Thats BS. Simply state my comment did not meet with the personal approval of someone at the station as there are NO WRITTEN GUIDELINES for how they handle comments at WIFR other than happlessly and at random.
