ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Shops owners along the Miracle Mile in Rockford will soon get some help to update the image of their business.
On Monday, city council voted yes on a one year pilot program to help business owners remove and update signage along East State Street. The program will be paid for with $65,000 in TIF dollars. Interested business owners can receive up to $10,000 to replace an old sign and up to $5,000 to remove one.
"I think there's a lot of study, a lot of science that goes into colors, and height and digital and lights and I think a lot of people think about that in attracting someone driving by their place of business so I think it’s absolutely right on, state of the art, and I am happy to see them go forward with it,” says the area’s alderman Frank Beach.
The program is not mandatory and funds will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. Aldermen take a final vote on the program next week.
