ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Cherry Valley Fire hosted the 22nd Annual Midwest Regional Extrication Competition on Saturday.
Teams from around the area took turns rescuing dummies that were stuck in a car using both hand and power tools.
Cherry Valley Lieutenant Kristopher Gay says this weekend is a perfect opportunity to try out new tools and new techniques.
"Things get old and things break so we always go out and try demo new tools so we do get to see things in that environment," said Gay. "Here, they actually get to put it to use and see how it's going to move metal and help disentangle the victim from the vehicle. It's a great learning opportunity and a good opportunity to use those tools and see that new technology. "
The competition also included teams from Aurora, Kirkland, Byron, and North Park.
