Fire Displaces Dozens of Beloit Neighbors

BELIOT (WIFR) -- Dozens of people are now homeless after a fire breaks out in a multi-story apartment building in Beloit.

Firefighters believe the fire started just before 6pm Tuesday in the kitchen of a fourth floor unit at Emerson Hall Apartments. That’s a low income housing complex just steps away from the Beloit College campus. Crews had to cut a hole in the roof after smoke traveled to the attic. Investigators say 30 of the units are occupied and everyone got out safely. The Red Cross and Beloit College have offered to help the tenants find a place to stay.
