UPDATE: Fatal Crash Under Investigation on I-39 Near Rochelle

OGLE COUNTY (WIFR) -- We now know the name of the semi driver killed in a fiery crash last night on I-39.
State troopers say Ralph Maness, 60, who's from Texas, died after his semi burst into flames.

Investigators say he rear-ended another semi that was driving too slow. A third tractor-trailer swerved into the ditch to avoid the accident, but it also ended up catching on fire.

The drivers of the two other semis were okay.


ROCHELLE (WIFR) -- A person is dead after fiery crash shuts down I-39 near Rochelle.

Illinois State Police say three commercial vehicles crashed on I-39 near I-88 around 8:00 p.m. Friday. One of the vehicles burst into flames killing the person inside.

As of 10:00 p.m. Friday all I-90 northbound lanes are blocked because of the crash. Police say traffic is being diverted from I-39 to IL 251.

Police say we can expect the area to be closed for the next several hours while officers investigate the deadly crash.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
