ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We've learned 60-year-old, Ken A. Neal of Cherry Valley was killed in a serious crash that shutdown parts of Bypass 20 Tuesday afternoon.
Illinois State Police say his SUV burst into flames after crashing into the back of a semi-truck that was slowing down due to road work. The east bound lanes of U.S. 20, between Alpine and 11th Street were closed for a few hours. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The cause of Neal's death remains under investigation.
Witnesses say it appears an SUV crashed into a semi and then caught fire. We're told State Troopers are still on the scene.
Eastbound traffic traveling on US Route 20 should exit on IL Route 251 to travel around the crash scene.
