Family Members Mourn Loss of 8 Year Old Rockford Boy

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Family members of the eight year old Rockford boy stabbed to death early Tuesday morning say they're heartbroken over his murder, allegedly at the hands of his mother.

Winnebago County Sheriff's detectives say 8 year old Thomas Kossow was found dead just before 1am Tuesday morning outside his home on Woodrow Avenue. His mother, 39 year old Jody Kossow, is charged with first degree murder in her son's death. She is currently in the Winnebago County Jail on two hundred thousand
dollars bond.

The boy’s family says they are currently in the process of making funeral arrangements and have been posting pictures in memory of Thomas on Facebook. His half-sister tells 23 News she's devastated that her little brother's life was taken so suddenly.

“Me and him had so much in common. He was such a kind hearted kid. He just loved everybody. There are so many things that I'd like to say that I'm at a loss for words right now because of how tragic he died,” says Amber Kossow of Crystal Lake.

Thomas Kossow was a student at McIntosh elementary school in Rockford. The school district says grief counselors will be on hand to help comfort students and teachers.
