ROCKFORD ( WIFR) – Most families in Rockford's Fairgrounds Housing Complex have been hit hard by the economy, but many feel they're healthier that they were a few years ago.
Today thy celebrated the changes they've made thanks to the help of the Rockford Health Council and The University of Illinois.
A 2010 study found most kids and families at Fairgrounds were obese or living unhealthy lifestyles. Since that study, UIC medical students have been teaching residents about nutrition and exercise and residents say the hard work has paid off.
This is just a pilot program. The full program begins in the fall.
