Faces of Courage Display to Honor Fallen Vietnam Soldiers

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- For the first time we can now see the faces of local soldiers who lost their life while fighting in Vietnam.

On Monday at Midway Village the new Faces of Courage display includes photos of nearly 80 area servicemen killed in the Vietnam war.

Inis Bloomster of the Daughters of the American Revolution says they have been collecting pictures this past year mostly from high school yearbooks for the tribute.

"Its one thing to see their faces on the wall, i mean their names on the wall in granite, but its another thing to see their faces. It strikes you that they're so young, but that's the way it is with war, they take all of our young people, and that's what people forget,"

Todays event also included a commemorative flag raising and purple heart unveiling ceremony.
