FHN Using New Technology to Prevent Infections

FREEPORT (WIFR) – Most patients already have a weakened immune system which puts them more at risk for potentially deadly infections like MRSA, but a local hospital is investing in new technology to make sure their patients stay on the track to recovery.

The new Xenex robot at FHN Memorial Hospital uses ultraviolet rays 25,000 brighter than the sun to destroy the deadly superbugs that can pop up in hospitals. Nurses and Doctors use the robot to decontaminate patients’ rooms and even operation rooms. Doctors say the technology is a life saver.

Thousands of Americans are exposed to superbugs like the ones that cause MRSA and C-diff each year.
