ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- An Evansville man has been arrested for his 6th offense of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI).

Just before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 Rock County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5500 block of N. Weary Road in Center Township, along with Police/EMS from the City of Evansville, for a report of a vehicle runoff in the ditch. A passerby had called to report the driver of a pickup truck was believed to be under the influence of intoxicants.

On arrival, police spoke with the driver, 32-year-old Curt Baumer, of rural Evansville who said he was driving northbound on N. Weary Road when he lost control of his 1992 Ford F150 on the narrow road, which was snow covered and slippery. Baumer’s truck entered the west ditch and stopped at an embankment in some scrub brush.

Baumer admitted he’d consumed alcohol prior to the crash and failed field sobriety testing. Baumer was eventually transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center for precautionary reasons, where he agreed to a chemical test of his blood.

Baumer was arrested for OWI and cited for Failure to Maintain Control of Vehicle. After being medically cleared, Baumer was transported to the Rock County Jail where he’ll be held pending an initial appearance in jail court on Tuesday, November 26th.
