Enrollment Down for District 205

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- When students in District 205 head back to school on Monday, there will be fewer kids in kindergarten classrooms.

“Hopefully we can eventually get up there. There's a lot for this week and even next week where people just at the last minute enroll their students so hopefully we'll get there," District 205 Chief Operations Officer, Todd Schmidt, said.

Kindergarten enrollment in the Rockford Public School District is down. Currently, there are a little more than 1,950 students signed up. Last year there were about 2,200 children enrolled. However school leaders say they're not too worried with the slightly lower numbers, at least not right now.
