STATELINE (WIFR) -- A long-time local leader of education has passed away.
Dr. Richard Fairgrieves served as the Boone and Winnebago County Regional Superintendent for 20 years. He got his start in education as a teacher in Belvidere in the 1960's, where he was born and raised.
Fairgrieves passed away on Sunday after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
