It's going to cost us more to park downtown in 2014.
"I think it's kind of ridiculous to be paying higher and higher parking prices."
Sally Pupillow says she has to pay almost 2 dollars for parking every time she comes downtown.
"I have no choice because I am handicapped, it's hard to find parking on the street," said Pupillow.
Starting January 1st, she'll have to pay even more. For the first time in 2 years parking fees will increase, to help fix the city's $300,000 parking deficit.
It'll cost us $3 more to park for an hour to 2 hours, spending 4-5 hours downtown will jump from $4.25 to $9.50.
"the monthly pass for parking decks like this one will cost $60 in the new year. That's a $7 increase from what it is now."
"Did anyone on the parking committee want to raise the rate? No," said 3rd Ward Alderman Tom McNamara.
McNamara heads up the downtown parking committee, a relatively new group made up of people who live and work in the area.
"Our parking decks have been poorly maintained. 2014's going to be a year that we really need to get down to the nuts and bolts of this and really fix the parking system once and for all."
McNamara says the money will go towards the city's parking fund. It'll be used for new signage on the streets and in parking lots, to show people where to park during downtown events.
Those who live downtown will also have to pay more for parking. Before it was $10 a year, now it'll cost $10 a month.
