Dixon Man Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize

DIXON -- “I’ve been feeling really lucky lately and something told me to try this ticket,” said John Bates after scratching a $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot instant lottery ticket and instantly winning $1 million.

“Last year I won $1,000 on a scratch ticket, and now this!” Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented the Dixon resident with an oversized check for $1 million.

Bates, who travels extensively for his job installing warehouse management software, was supposed to be out of town the day he purchased his winning ticket. “I’m rarely home; I was lucky that my schedule changed and I was in Dixon that day to buy this ticket.”

An occasional Lottery player, Bates said this was the second time he ever played a $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot ticket. He was in Super Pantry, 101 East Everett Street in Dixon when he bought and scratched his ticket. “It’s exciting to have one of our regular customers win such a big lottery prize, we’re very happy for him,” said store manager Donna Pyse. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Bates plans to use the winnings to pay bills, invest and donate to his favorite charities. “I’ll be conservative with this money,” he said.
