Dixon Police and Lee County Officials Launch Stalking Awareness Campaign

LEE COUNTY (WIFR) -- In observance of January being National Stalking Awareness Month, the Lee County State's Attorney and Dixon Police Chief have launched a community stalking awareness program.

Stalking is difficult to recognize, investigate and prosecute. Unlike other crimes, stalking is not a single, easily identifiable crime, but a series of acts, a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause that person fear. Stalking can take many different forms as well including assault, threat, vandalism, burglary as well as unwanted cards, calls, gifts, or visits.

For more on what stalkers do to their victims and things you can do if you feel you are a victim of stalking, please see the attached document on stalking awareness.

For more information on stalking resources, please contact your local YWCA or visit http://www.stalkingawarenessmonth.org. or http://www.ovw.usdoj.gov.
