Dixon Police Chief Taking on New Duties

DIXON (WIFR) – Some Dixon residents say they’re fed up with corruption and want change, and today the city officially made its Police Chief Danny Langloss a special assistant to the city council.

Langloss said he never thought he would ever be tasked with what the city is asking him to do as he’ll be filling in the shoes of former city engineer Shawn Ortgiesen. Ortgiesen recently resigned after the city discovered he had been using tax payer money for personal expenses.

Dixon City Council held a special meeting tonight at city hall to go over the chief’s new temporary duties. One of those duties is taking over the management of city personnel, a responsibility Ortgiesen held.

Mayor Jim Burke said the city is looking to hire a city administrator.
Langloss is helping the council shape that position’s job description. He’ll also assist in finding candidates for the job.

Langloss and a number of the residents that attended tonight’s meeting said change needs to happen now.

“Danny being chief of police and in charge of assisting them, hopefully, will find a good person that can bring integrity and honesty back to the city," said Dixon resident Jill Polivka.

"Having the trust of the community, knowing the tone and culture we need to create here, how to bring people together to create that is going to be important in our success,” said Chief Langloss. “I’m just one part of a team that's going to make this happen."

The Chief said he would like to audit the city’s human resources department to see if anything needs to be changed and would like to hire an interim director for the department soon.

Dixon residents spoke before the council tonight with some calling for Mayor Jim Burke to resign since he didn't catch Ortgiesen’s alleged credit card abuse.
