ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- More fresh fruit and vegetables could be coming to Rockford’s West side despite the area's alderman saying she doesn't want the new grocery store in her ward.
A 15,000 Save-A-Lot is expected to go in at the corner of West State Street and Central. The developer IFF will build the store, then lease to the company. The grocery store will have a full service meat department and will participate in a state program that brings fresh produce to so called food deserts in Illinois. 13th Ward Alderman Linda McNeeley was the only no vote on the project, saying it does not fill a need and the area needs a store like Schnucks or Meijer instead.
