Derek Dimke Signs 3 Year Deal with Jets

UNDATED (WIFR) -- After three delayed or cancelled flights Boylan Grad Derek Dimke finally landed for his tryout with the New York Jets at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning and you won't hear him complaining about it now.

Dimke inked a three year deal with New York to compete for the team's starting kicker position. You may remember he signed with the Lions after graduating from Illinois and was perfect in the preseason before Detroit cut him and opted to stay with veteran Jason Hanson with the Jets Dimke still has to compete with a veteran, Nick Folk, but he is in a much better position, with a full contract.

"You know I'm just going in there to compete, I think they made that clear by signing me today instead of just inviting me to camp and like I said I'm very fortunate and Nick Folk is a great kicker, he has had an amazing career there, I just look forward to learning from him and learning from the best in the business like I said. Coach Aguillar and all the special teams coaches there are great coaches," Dimke said.
