DEKALB (WIFR) -- A man shot by a DeKalb County Deputy is now out of the hospital and sitting in jail. Hassan Coleman was arrested this afternoon for assaulting a deputy and unlawful use of a weapon.
On May 24 Coleman was accused of holding people hostage inside and Suburban Estates Apartment on Twombly Road. The sheriff's department says after an hour stand off he let them go and threatened a deputy, which lead to the shooting. Illinois State Police are now investigating.
That suspect, Hassan Coleman,23, is now at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
This all happened after deputies say they got a call around 1pm that a man had a gun at Suburban Estates on Twombly Road. About an hour later investigators say Coleman let the people with him inside the apartment leave. Then, they say Coleman threatened a deputy, which led to the shooting.
Coleman is expected to survive.
Illinois State Police are now investigating.
