DAKOTA (WIFR) – Some Dakota school bus drivers are worried they could find themselves out of a job since the school district voted to outsource transportation services.
The District says they’re looking to cut costs anyway they can, as their financial situation is in dire straits, so they’re working on outsourcing their bus services to the Freeport School District. That means, Freeport Schools will supply busses and drivers, but Dakota’s District say part of the plan has Freeport hiring all Dakota bus drivers to run the routes so no one will lose their job.
“They know the roads they know the kids, they have the rapport with them, so it would make sense for both of us to want to have the Dakota School District bus drivers continue on with the routes for just Dakota,” said Dakota Superintendent Michael Schiffman.
Freeport still needs to pass the plan, but their district tells us they’ve only had discussions with Dakota and still have to present the idea to the entire board. The earliest they will be able to discuss the plan is next month.
