Couple Weds Nearly 50 Years After Meeting

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A pair of newlyweds celebrate their wedding today surrounded by family and friends. The groom says he waited decades to finally put a ring on it.

Richard and Janelle Lo Piccolo tied the knot on Saturday. Richard says he had a crush on Janelle for 46 years but never told her. She ended up marrying his best friend. He died a few years ago. Janelle and Richard reunited last spring and he proposed last July.

This day is one the couple will never forget, especially the groom's gaffe at the altar.

"He was supposed to turn and come around and get me and he just turned and kept going and left me at the altar!" but otherwise I'll remember how much everything meant." "I feel it’s been a long time coming and it happened and the good lord saved the best for last"

Both are longtime members at St. Anthony's church in South Rockford. Their reunion took place during a church fundraiser
