ROCKFORD (WIFR) – The Stateline area has seen more construction projects than usual this summer and fall and it’s about to add another major one to the list.
The sound of tires hitting railroad tracks can be heard every day at Riverside and Material Avenue. However, this area will be much quieter come Wednesday at 7 a.m. when the intersection will close so crews can replace part of the track. This means a detour for drivers like Laura Brass.
“I don’t want to go the way they’re going to take me because I can imagine how much longer that’s going to be, so I’ll just have to come the back way of Rockford, the back roads, which I don’t prefer,” said Brass.
The detour will take eastbound traffic north on North Second, Windsor east to Alpine and Alpine South to Riverside. Westbound traffic will take the same route in the opposite direction. The closure will last a week.
“Having to deal with the construction that’s coming is going to be pretty bad, having to commute a mile down the road and having to go two, three miles out of the way is not going to be very fun,” said Allen Eversoll.
An inconvenient commute, that drives say they’ll survive.
“If it’s a necessity, it’s a must but just follow the detour signs, which I’m not very good at,” said Ella Horton
Employees at a nearby Mobil gas station say they’re worried about losing business.
The closure will begin at 7 a.m. on October 16th.
