ROCKTON (WIFR) -- The Village Board of Rockton has given a preliminary ok to a plan to annex land near the newly built Wal-Mart. First Rockford Group proposed the plan and could buy the property. A few business owners lease buildings there now. They say they will be forced to move if First Rockford Group buys the land. The business owners say, they don't mind moving, as long as they get advanced notice and help with moving costs.
ROCKTON (WIFR) -- A group of Rockton business owners is worried they'll be forced to close, if the village board moves forward with a plan to annex a parcel of land north of Rockton Road. This land at the intersection of Quail Trail and Rockton Road is considered Winnebago County and is currently in the hands of a private owner. That owner leases space to several businesses, including R and L Auto Body and Kiddos Automotive. The owners of those shops worry, if the land is annexed into the village of Rockton, and then sold to First Rockford group, they'll have to pick up and leave.
“I'm all for growth it brings in business but it’s got to be done right and I don’t think I should have to move at my expense for someone's profit basically," said Don Ganrude, owner of R & L Auto Body.
The village board expects a final vote on the annexation plan later this month.
