Community Sessions at Closing Schools Offer Chance for Parents to Voice Their Opinions

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Parents at two Rockford schools scheduled to close are speaking out tonight.

Community information sessions were held at West View and Thompson Elementary schools earlier this afternoon. Those are two schools out of seven set to close in all three plans the district has put out. Some parents say they are concerned about the lack of meetings held during the evenings to voice their opinions.

"All of our local elementary schools have the process where there's a meeting right after school and that maximizes staff attendance and may give the opportunity for some students and parents to attend, but not all. And that's why we're also have four community events that are occurring in the evenings,” said District 205 Superintendent Dr. Ehren Jarrett.
