Community Input Sought for Naming of New School

BELOIT (WIFR) --– Construction of a new intermediate school will begin this year as part of the School District of Beloit’s facilities referendum, and the district is reaching out to the community to help name the school.

An ad hoc committee of the Board of Education, under the leadership of Chairwoman Kay Nordstrom, has been given the task of gathering community input on whom to name the new school after, reviewing and researching all submissions, and putting forth a recommendation to the Board over the next few months.

Submitted names should meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrating exemplary moral character;
• Made an outstanding contribution to education, humanity or the community;
• Displayed outstanding leadership; or
• Is a person of historical significance.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 4, 2013. A submission form is located in the announcements section of the district website: The form asks for the name and contact phone/email of the person submitting the form (in case of follow-up requested by the committee), the name of the person being suggested for the honor, and reasons for naming this person.
