Grant awards will range from $500 to $2,500. The deadline is May 1, 2013 and guidelines and applications are available at www.cfnil.org. Ideas for neighborhood projects include:
• Permanent fixtures (i.e. trash receptacles, planters) installed on public property or common areas
• Landscape projects (i.e. shrubs, trees, perennials) which make permanent improvements to a public area. Landscape projects must have a maintenance plan (i.e. watering, weeding) and must be on public or common property
• Residential signage, neighborhood newsletters, and neighborhood events
The Neighborhood Grants Program is an endowed grant program of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Since the program’s inception in 1995, more than $500,000 has been awarded to neighborhood based groups and organizations working to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods.
The Community Foundation’s mission is to attract, grow, and preserve a permanent endowment for the Northern Illinois community. The Foundation is the area’s largest provider of grants to nonprofits and scholarships to students seeking higher education.
