ROCKFORD (WIFR) – The bitter cold winter left many people with a higher electric bill and ComEd is now making it easier to make the payments.
The electric company is using $10 million in assistance funds to help its customers who have faced financial hardship paying their bills this winter. Today ComEd was at the Rockford Human Services Department answering questions and looking over applications. Customers have the opportunity to receive grants of up to $1,500 to put towards their electricity bill.
“Just January alone, it was the coldest January that we've had in over 50 years. We saw an average increase of electric use of over six percent. We know for some residents it's even higher,” said ComEd spokesman Paul Callighan.
Anyone in need of any assistance has until April 1st to apply by calling or going online.
