ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We may finally be out of the drought across the Stateline but there is a new problem facing area farmers.
Frozen ground and snow cover is delaying farmers from getting out into the fields. Containers of seed sit and wait to be planted on many farms across the Stateline as farmers continue to wait for the ground to thaw and the fields to be prepared.
At this point, fields are several weeks away from being ready, compared to last year when seed was getting ready to be planted. A field can be planted as late as May, but not without some risk.
