Clean Up Continues at the Fordam Dam

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Plans for a white water rafting course on the Rock River are moving along as work on the Fordam Dam gets underway.

Environmental clean-up has begun at the old power plant site in Downtown Rockford.

The area will be closed for about the next four months while crews get the five acres up to state regulations.

Workers will remove contaminants from the soil and demolish the power plant on the east side of the river.

The city hopes to eventually turn the area into a park.
