Civil War Veterans Honored in Rockton

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- On the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, one local cemetery is paying tribute to the civil war vets.

About 50 flags have been placed by Sexton Jerri Noller over the graves of those who served in the Civil War at Rockton Township Cemetery.
Two representatives of the Sons of Veterans of Union Soldiers Organization also stood as a sentry in front of Brigadier General Elon John Farnsworth’s grave. Farnsworth was buried in Rockton following his death a Gettysburg.

“If you don’t revere the veterans, they’re the ones that made you the freedoms that you have today and without us as a veteran, would you have the freedoms that you have today?” said Bill Johnson, the SUVCW Department Treasurer.
