City Council Meeting: City OK's Purchase of Old Facility; Members Speak Out Against Recent Violence

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It looks like the police might have a substation picked out. The Rockford City Council approved buying a facility that one Alderman is suggesting should be turned into one of three buildings used under the Geo-Policing initiative.

The property is the site of the old Fran Kral car dealership on North 3rd Street and Market Street in downtown. The property will cost the city nearly $400,000. Fran Kral closed down for good at the end of last year after spending 60 years in Rockford.

City council members along with Mayor Larry Morrissey also spoke about the stretch of deadly violence at Monday's meeting calling on community members to get involved in curbing the violence.
