FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Autumn leaf pickup will begin on Monday, October 15, 2012, and continue through the end of November or the first snowfall. Leaf pick up is a City service offered through the Public Works Department to Freeport residents who rake their leaves to the curb line.
Public Works Director, Tom Dole, emphasized that there are certain conditions for pickup:
(1) Crews will only pick up leaves placed at the curb in front of the residence.
(a) Do not place leaves upstream of or over storm drains.
(b) Do not park cars near or over the leaves.
(2) Crews will not pickup sticks, trash, tree limbs, grass clippings, or any other debris in the leaf piles.
(3) Crews will not make individual pickups. Leaves will be picked up on a regular basis along the entire street, usually on a once a week schedule.
Superintendent Dole stresses the need for patience. “We will do our best to get all leaves picked up as quickly as possible. However, we are not in a position to do individual pickups.”
If citizens have any questions, they are encouraged to call the Street Department at 235-8210.
