ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Supporters of one of Rockford's mayoral candidates took to the Forest City's busiest intersection during the afternoon commute. Citizens for Michael Kleen held banners and signs at the corner of State and Alpine. Kleen supporters, like Sofia Cambre, say that grassroots ideas are key to getting their message out.
"Well they make people more aware of who's running and how important it is for our city to be cleaned up. Everybody has to come out and do their part. So we can take care of this. This is us too. We have to take our part in voting for the best person and Michael Klen is the best person," Cambre said.
The Republican Kleen and Democrat Jim Hughes are both trying to unseat two term Independent Mayor Larry Morrissey.
