BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- While unions are gearing up for the new positions, so were many Stateline residents. Today the Chrysler buzz dominated the Workforce Connection’s annual Career Expo and Job Fair.
One attendee told us, “I couldn't even find a parking spot."
A few miles away from the assembly plant the Winnebago and Boone county Workforce Connection held their annual career expo and there was one booth many had their sights set on.
Those applying for jobs directly at the plant can expect to earn nearly 16 dollars an hour.
That’s what some Chrysler employees are receiving right now. The pay for current workers ranges between 16 and 28 dollars an hour and new employees will be paid $15.78 every hour. that's almost double
"Trying to get into Chrysler like everybody else," Job seeker Belva Camp said. "I was waiting kind of out the door and I came late. I didn't even get here when it opened."
With many Stateline residents patiently waiting for their chance to grab an application, some were already looking ahead to other opportunities that will become available through Chrysler’s job expansion.
Syncreon, one of Chrysler’s many suppliers, is also accepting applications for jobs they plan on adding in the coming months to accommodate assembly plants growing demand.
Job seeker Patrick Ferguson said, "I think Chrysler is doing a wonderful thing and we'll see what goes after that."
While many suppliers of Chrysler were not at the expo today, it doesn't mean they aren't accepting applications. While suppliers like Scyreon don't have any immediate openings, future job positions will likely be created once productivity begins with the addition of Chrysler’s new workface.
