ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Stateline kids get the chance to pick out the perfect present for mom and dad now that the Children's Holiday Shoppe is open in Rockford.
This is the 3rd year Mother House Crisis Nursery has put on this event. Kids can browse dozens of gifts that are all budget friendly. They range in price from 6 bucks to just a dollar. There's also a wrapping station full of bows and bags. Volunteers lend a helping hand so the gifts are a special holiday surprise for families.
"In the beginning, a lot of children were afraid of Santa but they loved Mrs. Claus so it was very easy for them to come up to me and talk to me and I love helping them shop for their families," says volunteer Melody Brocato, who often comes dressed as Mrs. Clause to help the kids shop.
Money from the sales at the holiday shop go back to Mother House Crisis Nursery. Mother House provides free childcare and other services for families in crisis.
Kids can shop Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm. The Children’s Holiday Shoppe is also open Saturdays from 10am to 6pm.It is located in the MarketPlace in the 5800 block of East State Street on the Mulford Road side near Subway. Gifts for the Children’s Holiday Shoppe were donated by local companies including UPS, Kohl’s, Two Men and a Truck, US Cellular, and BMO Harris Bank.
