ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- New information on the spill on I-90 Friday afternoon that snarled traffic for a few hours.
Illinois State Police say this yellow substance is a polymer pigment, which is like paint. It's not hazardous. Authorities say it spilled off the bed of a pick-up truck. The driver eventually realized and stopped. Since troopers didn't know what it was at the time. They reduced traffic to one one between State and Riverside. Traffic returned to normal just after 5:00 p.m. Friday.
Emergency crews blocked off all but one lane of traffic to try and clean up an unknown yellow substance off the roadway that had traffic backed up between State Street and Riverside. Cherry Valley’s HAZMAT unit responded fairly quickly and Illinois State Police opened up all lanes by 5:15 this evening.
