Cause of House Fire Near Downtown Rockford Remains Under Investigation

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A house fire near downtown Rockford remains under investigation this morning.

Fire officials say they were sent to a house fire in the 200 block of North London Avenue before 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, they attempted to reach the fire on the second floor, where flames were visible. However, high heat became unbearable and they were unable to remain in the home.

30 firefighters responded to the fire where a defensive stance was taken. Crews stayed on the scene for eight hours to extinguish hot spots.

Almost $300,000 is estimated in damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family of two adults and four children to find housing.
