LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- February is National Skating Month, and it comes at a perfect time with the Sochi Olympics, and for people around the area to get involved on the ice. The Carlson Ice Rink celebrates the month, and brings stateliners on the ice for some Sunday fun.
Almost 300 people showed up at the ice arena to take part in National Skating Month. The Rockford Park District held the special event to teach people about the fundamentals of skating. Today's event featured free skating lessons and demonstrations. The Park District's skaters of all levels, showed off their skills with different spins and jumps.
"We had a little exhibition of some of our local skaters. We started off with the lower level skaters and then we went up to some of the higher level skaters. Everyone could see the progression," says Mary Kroll, Dir. of Figure Skating at Carlson Ice Rink.
