Career Criminal Sent Back to Prison

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford man convicted of 60 crimes at the age of 60 is going back to prison, this time for 18 years.

Robert Barr has been in and out of prison since 1980, serving time for robbery, burglary, drugs, and even escaping from jail.

In April of last year, he tried to strangle an elderly woman at an ATM to get her money. Today, he was sentenced for that crime. Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato says he hopes stiffer penalties will help reduce recidivism.

“Career criminals are individuals that when we recognize they just simply are going to continue a pattern of lawless behavior that they’re going to get a strong sentence, and that they’re going to be removed from the streets of Rockford and these communities surrounding Rockford,” said Winnebago State’s Attorney, Joe Bruscato.
Bar had faced a maximum sentence of 30 years.
