UPDATE: The driver involved in the car crash in Boone County around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night has died.
Authorities say a patrol officer attempted to pull the man over for a routine traffic stop near Circle Drive. That's when he took off. Police called off the chase shortly after the man ran a red light.
Just 10 minutes later the driver crashed at the intersection of Spring Creek and Olson Road.
When crews arrived on scene they could see he was thrown from his vehicle and was in critical condition. A helicopter was called to the scene but the man died shortly after Lifeline arrived.
No one else was involved in the crash. The man's name will be released pending family notification.
Details of the crash are limited at this time but we've heard that a helicopter was called to the scene.
