WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- The conversation on how to keep more offenders from ending up back in prison took center stage at a candidate forum for the men running for Winnebago County Sheriff.
All seven candidates took part in the event Sunday afternoon hosted at Rockford’s Christ United Methodist Church. Glenn Heidenreich, Randal Olson, Bob Redmond, Frank Pobjecky, Gary Caruana, Jeffrey Schroeder and Bob Springer are all vying to be the top cop in the county. They took turns answering questions and laying out their vision on how to tackle crime in the Stateline. All of them highlighted the need to hire more corrections officers at the county jail.
"I wanted to know the candidates and I felt the only reason I could understand what they were for if I came here and listened to them, and a lot of my questions were answered," says voter Mary Seigfreid.
The event was put on by Rockford Urban Ministries, the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women.
