UNDATED (WIFR) -- In 39 days, Americans will head to the polls to elect our next president.
But even though the top of one party's presidential ticket lived less than 90 miles from Rockford and the number two man on the other party's ticket grew up less than 40 miles from the Forest City. The realization is that Rockford voters will have virtually no bearing on the outcome of the presidential race, that's because our president is determined by an electoral vote instead of the popular vote. Meaning states go all or nothing for the candidate that the majority of that state chooses no matter how slim that majority may be.
I talked to local political science professor P.S. Ruckman to get a little more perspective on the electoral college and for a look at how the 2012 electoral map is shaping up.
