California Teens Volunteer at Homeless Shelter

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It’s not something we typically hear when it comes to students and spring break, however some kids are using their time off to give back.

Over a dozen high schoolers near Los Angeles saved money to volunteer at the Rockford Rescue Mission as part of their Christian ministry. The group says they selected the mission to experience helping out in an urban environment. They’re helping out with preparing meals as well as volunteering in the crisis centers and thrift store.

"Most people don't want to help clean or pick up trash and I feel like that's a really special thing that we get to do, that most people don't want to do because then in the sense, we could be a blessing to others,” said Brittany Holcomb, a student volunteer.

The students will be volunteering at the mission through tomorrow.
